A 60-day journey circling the Australian Coast was terminated in the wake of the fatal incident of an senior female passenger who was abandoned by the ship on a remote tropical isle.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the remote island with shipmates from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the group for a break. The ship left without her and went back several hours later after the crew discovered the woman was missing.

A major hunt discovered her body the next day.

Officials are examining the event, alongside investigators and the medical examiner.

Head of the voyage organizer announced that guests and staff on the Coral Adventurer were told that the continuation of the voyage had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and previous mechanical issues".

In a statement, he added that guests would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to organize the travel back of the travelers via private aircraft".

Regulatory bodies also released an updated announcement, and said they had "issued a order to the Captain" banning any new passengers from boarding the liner.

The representative said that they would visit the ship in Cairns upon its arrival.

The liner originally sailed from the Australian port on October 24th, and was merely two days into the voyage at the time of the elderly woman's death. The tropical location was the first stop on the voyage.

Guests on the ship - who generally pay tens of thousands of dollars to take part in the cruise - were taken there for a day trip with the option of trekking or underwater exploration.

The offspring of the victim said that her loved ones was "shocked and saddened that the vessel left the location after an scheduled excursion without my mum".

Through her comments, she portrayed her mum as an "active 80-year-old" who was a participant of a hiking group.

"According to scant facts we have been informed, it appears that there was a lapse of care and common sense," she mentioned.

She added that she wished the examination would be able to determine what "the organization should have performed that might have preserved Mum's being".
